NAWASSCO Training

NAWASSCO was selected for a pilot project recommended by UN Habitat and the Global Wastewater Initiative (GWI) based on recent facility expansions aimed at improving potable water and sanitation services.

NAWASSCO

In June 2024, Mike Hewitt volunteered with Operators Without Borders (OWB) to instruct a Level 1 Water Distribution training course for Nakuru Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASSCO) operators in Nakuru, Kenya. He was accompanied by Ian McIlwham, a veteran instructor and certified Level 4 Wastewater Treatment Operator from Durham Region in Ontario. Ian led a wastewater collection Level 1 exam preparation course and had previously taught a wastewater treatment course to NAWASSCO in November 2022.

NAWASSCO was selected for a pilot project recommended by UN Habitat and the Global Wastewater Initiative (GWI) based on recent facility expansions aimed at improving potable water and sanitation services. A key component of this initiative was training trainers to develop internal capacity, essential for sustainable water and wastewater management. The project's success, including the certification of six operators, has been largely due to the dedication of volunteers.
