Worked at SCFP for twelve years as a water treatment foreman at the Seymour-Capilano Filtration Plant (SCFP) located in North Vancouver which supplies water to Metro Vancouver and is Canada’s largest direct filtration facility.
Lead during commissioning of facility and oversaw a $100,000 budget to develop plant signage, standard operating procedures (SOPs), in-house training program content, emergency response procedures (ERPs) for water operations unit, and new educational content with NAIT.
During steady-state, responsible for control of treatment plant processes, chemical dosages, and equipment used to treat water for the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Determined and adjusted plant flows to meet system demands, identified trends and abnormal operation to make appropriate changes in plant processes to optimize performance and efficiency using Computerized Data Acquisition & Control system (CDACS). Operated sludge belt presses, Veolia ACTIFLO high-rate clarifiers using microsand, chemical treatment equipment, storage vessels, circulation pumps and valves.
Complied with safety requirements of the facility and actively promoted safe work practices and advised system staff and/or contractors of potential problems and alarms. Conducted confined space entries according to appropriate regulatory guidelines. Advised on need to order chemicals and accepted chemical shipments by inspecting chemical containers and security tags before taking delivery and unloading either by hand or with forklift.
